THE WAY CARMILLA LOOKS AT LAURA AFTER SHE SAVED HER 

I’ve been thinking that Carmilla’s warmth later on in this episode was a little bit out of character, but then I saw this and had to remind myself that Laura’s not the only one with romantic notions. I’m sure Mattie was embellishing when she spoke of Carmilla’s ‘past loves’, but she clearly has somewhat of a point. Carmilla’s far more emotional than anyone gives her credit for and to have someone as wholly good as Laura not only say that she was worth more, but to prove it by saving her, the flawed individual, over the majority (of whom we can assume to be innocents)? it’s not much of a surprise then that Carmilla was able to so quickly let go of her apathy and hurt and anger in favor of comforting Laura (and LaF, by extension). this probably meant more to Carmilla than we can ever understand, and one could even argue that this trumps her bond with Mattie simply because Mattie indulged her inner, hated monster while Laura saved the scared human girl Carmilla still is in the very deepest parts of her heart.
