Carmilla Fic Recommendations

Since it’s going to be a sad, empty Tuesday with no Carmilla this week, thought I’d type up a list of fic recommendations. Attempts were made to categorize. I think they’re all Hollstein because I’m trash like that.

I’ve included the authors’ tumblrs if I could find them. If any authors want their fic/tumblr removed from this post, just lmk and I will take it out, no worries.

HSAU:

Fool’s Gold by whatsthedamage: I mean, you’ve probably read this already. It’s the most popular Carmilla fic on AO3. It’s worth the hype. Destroys me every time I read it. (Not completed, currently stalled?) @turnandchasethewind @galaxycarm

Music to my Ears and Find Me Through the Radio by Latchingontoyou: Laura and Carmilla are pretty spectacularly fucked up teenagers in love in this HSAU and CAU sequel. (MTME completed, FMTTR almost completed, active) @musictomyearshsau

The Minister’s Daughter by This_Is_A_Good_Sign: Carmilla moves to a new town and has to deal with her dad being the local minister and her mother trying to force her to be straight. Enter Laura Hollis to save/ruin the day. (not completed, updated recently) @kait-e-k

50 Flavors of Creampuff by Cysteine: 50 Shades of Grey but gay and not abusive. A retelling of the story with Carmilla and Laura. (Not completed but being updated regularly) @cysteine-snape-writes

The author BloodAndPaper had a couple good ones but they seem to have deleted them all quite recently. Anyone know what’s up with that?

A City of Strangers by allthisandheaven_too: Carmilla is homeless in NYC and runs into Laura one day. I have a soft spot for anything set in NYC. (Not completed, updated recently) nothing-to-that-light

Dancing On Our Graves by Teefths: Homeless Carmilla, Laf and Perry. Laura is a nurse. I’m enjoying this one a lot. (Not completed, updated recently) @carmillaandbikesafety

From Demons To Daylight by hurtleturtle: Carmilla is homeless (again, what is it with homeless Carm) and addicted to drugs before she meets Laura and her life changes. I really enjoyed this one. (Completed) @hurtleturtle

I’ve trained myself to give up on the past by onamondaymorning: A troubled Laura seeks help from sexy therapist Carmilla. Despite the obvious unprofessionalism of Camilla(which I really don’t mind in this case), this has one of the better descriptions of anxiety attacks/depersonalization I’ve read. klossquad

Nuclear by andthatisterrible: SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION. Yeah, this is my fic. Also a HSAU. Carmilla is dealing with depression and other mental health issues and Laura sort of stampedes into her life. (Not completed, I’m updating pretty regularly) @asleepinawell

Pandemic by Puntrest: A deadly disease is wiping out humanity and the gang is all stuck in a quarantine camp where not everything is as it seems. It gets pretty dark. (Completed) @puntrest

Fake Dating AU:

Meet Me Halfway To Your Heart by ariadnerue: Carmilla and Laura are bffs and the daughters of celebrities who accidentally let the press think they’re engaged one drunk night and then have to continue to fake it for the media. Things get complicated because of course they do. (Completed) @ariadnerue

The Improbability of Me and You by TheMoiralOfTheStory: Laura and Carmilla are bffs from childhood who have to pretend to date to appease Carmilla’s relatives. Things get complicated, as they always do in fake dating au. (Not completed, updated recently) @moirality

Miscellaneous: 

A Week in 307 by unicyclehippo: One-shot of Laura and Carmilla in lockdown in the dorms post season 1. Carmilla runs out of blood. (Completed) @unicyclehippo

In the Time of the Bells by MysteriousStranger: Holy fuck I love this AU. The gang are all still students at Silas but that’s where the resemblance ends. There’s mysterious dreams of Carmilla, Carmilla across the centuries, some wacked out jubilee that everyone is keen on, and bells that never stop playing annoying pop music. Sadly it seems to have been abandoned, but it is still worth a read. (Not completed, seems abandoned) @strangeandsombre

The Devil You Know by seductioneyes5h: Laura and her dad take in Carmilla as a foster before Laura goes to college. Featuring particularly naive and clueless Laura who just needs a hug and Carmilla who has her own agenda. (Not complete, updated recently) (couldn’t find tumblr account)

The Monster Princess by GleefullyWicked: Fantasy AU with an arranged marriage between kingdoms. (Updates really sporadically, not sure if it’s abandoned) (couldn’t find tumblr account)

Vindicated by blak_cat: Carmilla rockstar AU. Great fic. There’s a bunch of great fan art for it floating around, too. (Completed) @allymelftsw
